Magazine marks or stria usually appear on the sides of the cartridge case. This article shows how striation marks can be created on the base of the cartridge case due to a contact with the top back part of a specific magazine contour. These marks that are specific to certain types of semi-automatic pistol magazines are created by loading the cartridges manually into the magazine and not as a result of firing.
