AFTE Store - Manufacturing Marks on Speer Cartridges

During the initial examination of evidence Speer 45 Auto cartridge cases, toolmarks were observed on the heads of the cartridge cases that appeared similar to breech face marks; however, a more in depth examination of the cartridge cases quickly revealed that the toolmarks on the heads of the cartridge cases could not be breech face marks. The tool marks on the head of the cartridge cases were in alignment even when the firing pin drag marks on the cartridge cases were not in alignment. Further examination revealed that it was possible to identify the tool marks on the heads of the evidence cartridge cases to the tool marks located on the heads of Speer 45 Auto cartridges located in the Laboratory ammunition supply.
