AFTE Store - Matching Vehicle Parts Back to the Vehicle

Vehicles had been stolen and the major panels and doors from the vehicles had been removed. The Police located vehicle panels and doors at the premises of the suspects. They required an examination to determine whether or not the panels had been taken from particular vehicles. It was found that it was possible to identify panels as having come from a particular vehicle. During the manufacturing and painting process, a pattern was formed at the interface of panels in contact with one another. The pattern on one panel was the mirror image of the pattern on the panel in contact with it. The basis for individualization is discussed. A novel method is described for comparing large marks, using a stereo search microscope and photographic negatives.
