AFTE Store - Metal Fractures: Matching and Non-Matching Patterns
The identification of the pattern of breaks between two objects to determine if they were once part of a whole is based on the unique arrangement of the characteristics observed within the pattern of the break. This research includes examples of various types of fracture patterns described in the literature, and provides a brief discussion about the process of fracturing of metal. An examination of actual samples is made to observe the pattern of the external break and the pattern of the internal fracture. An inter-comparison of the arrangement of these characteristics in terms of known matching fractures and known non-matching fractures is made to determine the uniqueness of the arrangement of these characters within the break.
