AFTE Store - More Bullets with “Mushroomed” Bases
Base deformation is commonly observed on bullets fired in short barreled firearms, especially with lead bullets having concave bases. Test firing revealed that the presence or absence of impact marks can be used to differentiate base expansion on a bullet caused by striking an object in the base-first position from that of a bullet being fired from a short barreled firearm. Test firing was conducted using various nominal .44 and .45 caliber pistol and rifle ammunition and firing it in a single-shot 12 gauge shotgun with an “Alcan” shotgun adaptor.
