Restoration of a Jeweller's Mark in Gold Jewellery

This report covers the restoration of a jeweller’s mark on the inner band of an 18-carat gold diamond ring. Very little is published on the restoration of erased characters in precious metals. In this case the metallurgical reagent aqua regia was used to restore the characteristic jeweller’s mark to identify this ring as having been made by a specific jeweller.
