AFTE Store - Serial Number Restoration of Obliterated “Welded-On” Type Characters

Generally, serial number characters are roll stamped or punched to impress these numbers and/or letters into a metal surface of an item for identification. Our laboratory was asked to assist in an investigation of possible obliterated serial numbers on suspected stolen steel dumpsters. The serial numbers on these types of items were welded on letters and numbers, rather than typical rolled or punched characters. We were unsure of which restoration process would be effective in this case.
