AFTE Store - “Smoking a Bullet”

Microscopic examination of projectiles can be a daunting task that can take many hours to reach a conclusion. Using magnesium tape to “smoke” the surface of the bullet can assist the examiner in determining the starting point of their examination by covering up the fine stria and allowing only the gross characteristics to be present. This will allow the examiner to index the projectiles and then remove the smoke to examine the finer detail.
