AFTE Store - Technical Report: Serial Numbers Engraved by Laser – A Preliminary Study

This preliminary study purposes a new method for marking firearms using a laser. Since the obliteration of serial numbers is not uncommon, manufacturers need another method to retain this information on firearms. These engraved serial numbers and coded marks are placed on parts of the firearm which are used during the shooting process; their destruction (i.e. by obliterating the marks) should render the firearm inoperable. This technique of laser marking could also be used with ammunition.
