AFTE Store - The Characteristics of Some Muzzle-Loading Country- Made Firearms and Their Projectiles in India

It is observed that different types of country-made firearms seized in crimes like murder, robbery and poaching are about
30% of the total firearm cases received for ballistics examination in the laboratory. Most country-made firearms are of the
muzzle-loading type. The seizure of such firearms is reported to be more from rural areas. The availability of raw materials,
propellants and projectiles in the local market encourages criminals to use such firearms. The peculiarities observed in the
long and short barrel muzzle-loading firearms along with their projectiles are discussed in detail in this paper.
