AFTE Store - The Dye is Cast, or is it?

Dark colored clothing poses a problem when conducting examinations for gunshot residues. In particular, a good direct technique for visualizing sodium rhodizonate results is lacking. The Bashinsky transfer method has worked well for me in most instances but I have felt uncomfortable not “seeing” the smoke residue and/or chemical color reaction on the actual evidence. A recent case involving a black T-shirt encouraged me to experiment with dye removal as a way of overcoming this problem. The results I obtained were very promising and I offer this initial data hoping other examiners will evaluate this method.
