AFTE Store - The Exterior Ballistic Performance of Ricocheted and Destabilized Bullets

Bullets that perforate an intermediate material not only lose some velocity but are typically destabilized in the process. The same is true during a ricochet or deflection event. Certain mismatched combinations of guns and ammunition also result in unstable flight as well as reduced muzzle velocity. Hard data on the exterior ballistic behavior and properties of these destabilized bullets is essentially nonexistent as of this writing yet it is an important consideration in a number of shooting situations. These include, but are not limited to the maximum range of such bullets and reasonable estimates of the distances at which only superficial wounds are likely.
