AFTE Store - Toolmark on CCI ‘Clean-Fire’ Primers

A recent purchase for the laboratory reference collection included CCI ‘Clean-Fire’ cartridges in several different calibers. During inspection it was noted that tool marks were present on the primers. Microscopic examination showed that these marks were identifiable to one another. The nature of these marks is such that an examiner could mistake them for breech face marks produced as a result of firing. Caution should be exercised when examining ammunition of this type.
