AFTE Store - Unique Markings on Cartridge Cases From the Ejection Port of Type 14 Nambu Pistol

In May 1997, an interesting case was submitted to the ATF San Fransisco Laboratory Center for firearms examination. A mint condition Type 14 Nambu pistol, caliber 8mm Nambu, was accompanied by four thoroughly corroded 8mm Nambu caliber cartridge cases which were also covered with corrosion, rusty and soil particles. Cleaning the cartridge cases revealed an unusual dent and an impression mark on the sides of the cases. These markings lead to the identification of the cases to the submitted Type 14 firearm and appear to be due machining in the ejection port.
