Examination of a bullet with a flared base, no rifling impressions, and a .22 caliber Liberty 21 revolver with striations on the side of the crane revealed that the cartridge had been discharged in a chamber of the cylinder that was not inline with the barrel. The fired bullet struck the side of the crane as it passed.
