Typically, identifications made on markings produced by magazines are expected to be from the magazine lip area. In this particular case, a small protrusion on the follower itself sufficiently interacted with a cartridge during the cycling and firing processes to leave not only class characteristic type markings, but also identifiable striation type markings.
