AFTE Store - Velocities of Homemade and Modified Firearms

Ekol Aras Magnum Starter pistols were purchased and modifications were made to allow them to fire live ammunition. Also, homemade firearms were made out of plumbing materials. Both types of modified firearms were remotely fired through chronograph screens and attempts were made to record their velocities using two Oehler chronographs and Perma-GelTM. Because of the tumbling nature of the projectiles, it was found that Perma-GelTM was not useful in determining velocity. However, velocities were obtained using the chronographs.
