AFTE Store - Visualization of Gunshot Residue Patterns using a Video Spectral Comparator 2000

This research project expands on previous research using a Video Spectral Comparator 2000 (VSC 2000) to help facilitate the visualization and documentation of gunshot residue patterns, especially on dark colored fabrics and/or blood stained fabrics. Test patterns on a variety of fabrics and altered with blood, glass and gravel were evaluated using the VSC 2000 on the infrared (IR) and spot setting. Although there are limitations and cautionary steps to be aware of, it was found that the VSC 2000 can be useful in visualizing and documenting GSR patterns on articles of clothing submitted to the laboratory for examination.
