Definition

No Potential for Subclass Carryover

Filing – A finishing technique, usually performed using a hand tool or file, where machining may be difficult. The file has multipoint cutters (teeth) that when reciprocated over a surface remove a small amount of surface material.

Subclass carryover would not be expected on a work piece finished using filing.  Typically, filing is done by hand.  This can affect the direction and spacing of the marks imparted during filing, based on how the file is used on the workpiece.  Also during the filing process, material from the workpiece can fill in the spaces between the file’s teeth changing the working surface of the file.
